Used it for lectures in my Anatomy course and could hear the instructor loud and clear. Absolutely love this. It was also very easy to use,just plug in and set down.
It was close to $50 at the time, but I took the chance. I'm glad I did. What I liked was the "lows" the mic was able to pick up. Keep in mind you still have to "sit up front" to get a good recording. I use this to record seminars and lectures. I have an Olympus WS-331M. The sound quality is significantly better than the stock mic. I was apprehensive at first.
I come from the old days of radio with microphones almost big enough to hide behind. This tiny mic, paired with my old Olympus WS-300M is a real gem, especially when used with the extension cord.
You can plug it directly into the top of the recorder, or connect it via an extension cable. It works best if the recorder is in Conference mode when you use this mic. I connect the ME-51S to an Olympus DS-2400 Dictation recorder (142015) and put it in the middle of a conference table - having two active recording heads, perpendicular to the plane of the recorder, it records both sides of the table quite well. It also includes a removable clip, but it is not "noise canceling", so don't plan to wear this on your lapel while recording.
I love it and am glad I got it through Amazon.com because I didn't have to go back and forth driving from store to store to find what I was looking for. It came with an extention cord and clip that allows me to start the recording then place the recorder in my pocket while I have the the microphone clipped on my shirt. This external microphone is very handy. I use it to record myself while I'm practicing with my chorus. This leaves my hands free for "performing".
